SRS is a survey and research oriented organization established in 1995 to serve the need for data and carry out research on commission for various national and international organizations and institutions. As the nation progresses towards development, the demand for data and information gap related to databases yet unexplored in changing circumstances has also increased substantially. The data need could be nationwide, or for a cross-section of the population. The type and characteristics of data may be socio- economic, democratization process, peoples’ preferences, health and population and sustainable development related issues and various social and market related items. While the emphasis had been to provide information related to socio- economic areas, it is possible to identify other distinct areas where information is rather scarce. For example, there exists information gap in areas such as gender issues related to participation in economic activities, consumption, issues related to reproductive health and human rights. In other areas such as, mass media and communication, democratization process, public opinion and preferences stride towards progress and institution is rather insufficient. In general statistics and indicators related to policies are in macro terms and there has been scant attempt to measure the impact of policies and programmes on smaller scale i.e. at micro level especially on programmes and activities related to institutional development and governance. Attempt to make appropriate assessment and analysis of strides made in any of the above would require formulating and building indicators that depict peoples status and continuing participation in area. Such objective analysis needs continuous supply of data and information.
